Fourth of July, Cops & Robbers, Trophy Bucks

1934

A crowd of 2,500 Tri-County citizens gathered at Fannin Springs to celebrate the Fourth of July. The celebration included horse races, water sports and a carnival. A noon barbecue with all the fixings was enjoyed by many for .25 cents.

 

1948

The Trenton Shoe Shop was owned and ran by Z. T. “Dock” Thomas who provided an important service to the county residents. Sadly Dock died a tragic death in an automobile accident. He was on his way to Bell Church of God to preach when the accident happened.

 

1980

Kinsey’s Grocery in Bell was burglarized on a Thursday night. Sheriff Roy Rodgers rounded up the burglar which was a local fellow. Judge Joe DeMember set the bond at $2000. (Kinsey’s Grocery was located in the building where Akins Bar-B-Q is located today)

 

2010

Taylor Brown became the new Trenton City Manager in the Fall. Mayor Glen Thigpen, Commissioners Tim Kinsey, Randy Rutter and Arlene Wilkes questioned Brown at a City Meeting and then voted for him to become the new City Manager. Brown replaced the former City Manager of five year Jered Ottenwess.

A Big Buck contest was sponsored by Bell Feed and Seed in Bell. The winners were Leslie Hodge and Dwayne Carver who each killed a 12-point buck. They received a hanging barrel deer feeder for winning the contest.
