Looking back at the history of Gilchrist County.

1950

In 1950 the population of Gilchrist County was 3,499 in 1960 the population had dropped to 2868. Bell’s population was 108 in 1950 and 134 in 1960. Trenton’s population was 904 in 1950 and 937 in 1960.

1980

In July the Gilchrist County Health Facilities Authority members J. Min Ayers, Charles E. Hatch, D. Ray Harrison, Miliam Wilson, and Gwen Rexroat signed a resolution for bonds to construct a 90-bed nursing home in Trenton. The nursing home is known as Ayers Health and Rehabilitation Center some 45 years later.

2009

Tony Crews was named the Character Councils Personality of the Month. Crews had served with the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office over 12 years at the time and was an active member of many civic organizations including a local senior citizens food pantry.

 

Easton Corbin released “A Little More Country Than That,” Corbin a country music star is a Trenton native and a member of the Trenton High School Class of 2000 and a graduate of the University of Florida.
