FFA… Farm Bureau’s…and Bears!? OH MY!
Looking back at 100 years of Gilchrist County history.
Gilchrist County residents past and present are invited to attend the 100 Year Feast which is a county gathering to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Gilchrist County. The event will be held on Saturday, September 10th, at the Gilchrist County Ag Complex (Rodeo Arena) 4050 US 129, Bell, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $25.00 each and include supper. Tickets can be purchased online at gilchristcountycentennial.com or stop in at the Gilchrist County Property Appraiser Office in the courthouse and see Dale Anderson for a ticket. This fun evening will be reminiscent of the Education Foundation of Gilchrist County’s Beast Feast or a countywide family reunion. There will be lots of great food and some really good old fashioned fellowship. All proceeds from this event will go toward a monument for the county’s 100th Anniversary.

1948
Trenton FFA Chapter made a visit to Washington on July 5. The Chapter members who visited Washington D.C. were Frank Colson, Angus Swilley, Maxie Love, Murphy Everette, Herbert Brown the advisor, Lynn Curry, Rowland Brownlee, Horace Francis Arrington, George Williams, Ray Barron, Billy Lord, Freddie Garner, Malcom Quincey, Carroll Barron, G.C. Polk, Buddy Crews, Charles Lindsey, Lester Perryman, Felton Rogers and Alton NesSmith.
1961
A 500 pound black bear was killed by County Commissioner Jack Rowell near Trenton on the Lancaster farm. County Sheriff Clyde Williams and Deputy Charlie Parrish was part of the bear hunt.
1979
The Randall Roberts Family of Bell was chosen as the Gilchrist County Farm Bureau’s Farm Family of the Year. Mr. Roy Wilson, the Gilchrist Farm Bureau president presented the award to the Roberts family at the Farm Bureau annual meeting at Hart Springs. In 1963 The Roy Roberts family received the same award. (Roy was Randall was father).
Janie Mathis was crowned the Bell High School Homecoming Queen for 1979-1980
Kathryn Deen who had been the acting city manager in Trenton was voted in as the City Manager. Ms. Deen was the City Manager for many years.
