1925

W. C. Cocke served as the first Depot Agent in Bell from 1907 until late 1925. At that time the much admired train Old Peggy moved cotton, watermelons, and vegetables grown in Gilchrist County. After the Bell Depot was closed it was sold and moved out of Bell. The Bell Town Council and citizens worked to bring the Bell Depot home and with the help of a grant they were able to move the Depot home to Bell in 1996. Today the Bell Depot is located on its original site and it serves as the Bell Town Hall.

 

1967

Over 30 county-wide 4-H members headed to 4 -H camp at Cherry Lake. County extension agent Jim Yevlington reported that the camp’s theme that year was “Pioneers and Indians.”

 

The Frank Grant family of Trenton was selected as the Outstanding Farm Family of the Year at the Gilchrist County Farm Bureau’s annual meeting. The Grant Family, Frank and Francine along with their two children Janice and Larry were engaged in the dairy business. The Farm Bureau’s Directors were President Stacy Quincey, Vice President Roy Wilson, Clyde Townsend, Joyce Townsend, Grace Quincey, Ray Thomas, David Mikell, Virgil Holtsclaw and Frank Grant.

 

2000

Bell High School Homecoming King and Queen were Jeff Akins and Summer Caulk.

 

Spring Ridge volunteer firefighter George Cole was named Volunteer Firefighter of the Year for the State of Florida by the American Legion of Florida.
