Choir… Cola… Citizens

1944

Trenton Methodist Church Choir members were Florence Denny, Martha Carolyn (Pumpkin) Brown, Clara Mac Brown, Vida Hardee, Betty Sue Hardee, Lacy Lang, Effie Miller, Betty Turner, Doris Lazarus, Paul Sweeney, Joe Lee Hardee, John Robert Denny, Rev. Fred Yerkes and Mrs. Turner was the pianist for the choir and the church.

1975

The Coca-Cola Plant in Trenton closed at the end of December. Eudell Parrish, 32 year,  Plant Manager and staff of seven employees were transferred to the Coca-Cola Plant in Gainesville. The Trenton Coca-Cola Plant served Gilchrist, Dixie and Levy Counties.

 

The School Board approved $464,000 for construction of new library and Special Eduction building at Bell High School. Superintendent Eli Read said the school system had the funds for the new construction.

 

At the end of May the Suwannee River State Farmers Market manager reported that watermelons were being loaded. Melons that were 18-24 pounds were bringing 5 1/2 cents a pound. Which was perhaps the highest price melons had ever sold for in Trenton.

 

2005

The Gilchrist County Chamber of Commerce banquet included the Citizen of the Year Award which went to W. W. Welch, longtime County Tax Collector. Gary Rexroat received the J. Min Ayers Lifetime Achievement award and the Suwannee Valley Quilt Shoppe was named Business of the Year.
