Gilchrist County during the early years of our history.
1934
Mr. Fred Sundey had the driveway in front of the Old Tavern in Trenton rocked. This new rocked driveway would prove a lasting benefit to motorist desiring service at this station.
In spring of that year there was an enrollment for the CCC also known as the Civilian Conservation Corps, held in the county. This enrollment was open to all veterans in the county.
1960
Joppa Baptist Church near Fannin Springs held a quarterly Hymn Sing on Sunday, January 10 at 3 p.m. (Fanning Springs was spelled Fannin Springs at that time).
R & W Service and Hardware in Trenton, was owned by Robert Rowland. R & W was selling General Electric Ranges for $175.95. They also listed Swivel Consolette General Electric TV’s for $199.95. (R & W was located where Green’s Outdoor and More is located at currently.) McCall’s Tractor and Equipment was selling Massey Ferguson Tractors in Trenton and the business’ phone number was 3-2448. At one time Trenton had three tractor dealerships.
1980
The Gilchrist County School Board approved the purchase of 40 acres of land adjacent to Bell High School. The property was located to the East of the football field. The land was purchased from Willie Sanders whose home was located on the property. It sold for $2,250.00 per acre or a total amount of $90,000.00, according to School Superintendent Eli Read.
