1938

The Democratic Executive Committee met in Bell to plan Public Speaking Events throughout Gilchrist County during the election year. Public Speaking’s were held that year at Williford, Leggett, Franklin School House, Bell, Donnie, and Trenton.

 

1955

Paul Bullard a farmer in the Northwest Gilchrist County was one of the first local farmers to use irrigation. Bullard grew turnips, collards and mustard for area markets by pumping water from an old phosphate pit. He reported that the irrigation worked so well he planned to irrigate his tobacco and corn crops next season.

 

Bell Girls Basketball team was undefeated during the 1954-55 season. Team members were Nina Sue Roberts, Bonnie O’Steen, Irma O’Steen, Marie Stringer, Charlene Sanders, Shirley Shepherd, Iva Lou Thomas, Peggy Jo Rolling, Joanna Dew, Minnie Pearl Shepherd, Barbara Walker and Yvonne Rolling. Their coach was Mrs. Carol Hayns-Worth.

 

1990

Gilchrist Building Supply in Bell held a Grand Opening in April. Owners Jeff, Donna and Mike Hayes hosted the ribbon cutting event.

 

The 4-H County Council swine project was a success at the Suwannee River Livestock Show and Sale. The Council’s pig was donated by Johnny Jones, raised by Council member Lauri Perryman, and showed by Council member Stacey Ellison. The buyers of the swine were State Senator George Kirkpatrick and Representative Allen Boyd
