1956
June 7, the first car of watermelons for the season was loaded in Trenton on Tuesday on the A.C.L. (Atlantic Coast Line) tracks. The Congo melons averaged 27 pounds, and the load sold for $455.00. They were grown by Clark Quincey and Claude Stalvey in a 20 acre field near Trenton. The car contained 948 melons and James Quincey packed them. Some of the area watermelon growers that were shipping early that year included Theodore Palmer, G.C. Roberts and Hiram Bennett.
The Board of County Commissioners were Chairman Jack Rowell, Cecil Corbin, W..O. Cannon, Cecil Perkins and Joel Langford. Rowell’s salary was $103.40 a month, the other commissioners salaries were between $94.00 and $84.55 per month.
2013
In December the Trenton Tigers High School Football Team beat No. 1 Blountstown, 14-0, to clinch the State 1-A football title.
Ms. Iris Roberts was the Grand Marshal of the Bell Christmas Parade. Judge Ed Philman drove Ms. Roberts in the parade. Ms. Roberts taught school in Gilchrist County for 42 years and she was a very active member of the Bell Town Council for many years.
